Local TZS payments are supported via four payment schemes: TIPS, EFT, TISS (RTGS), and Book Transfer. Both CRDB Bank Plc and Ecobank Tanzania support the same schemes — whichever bank you have been assigned, the payment methods and limits are identical.
TIPS (Tanzania Instant Payments System)
TIPS is Tanzania's instant interbank payment system and supports payments of up to TZS 20 million per transaction, including payments initiated directly from mobile money providers. It is available 24/7 and funds are received in real-time.
To send via TIPS, the sender will need to select TIPS as their payment method, choose their mobile money provider, and enter your phone number or account number.
EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer)
EFT is a batch payment scheme for amounts up to TZS 20 million per transaction. Payments are cleared across five daily windows on weekdays: 08:50am, 10:10am, 12:30pm, 3:10pm, and 5:20pm GMT+3. Funds are typically received within 1 working day.
To send via EFT, the sender will need your bank name and account number.
TISS / RTGS (Real-Time Gross Settlement)
TISS is Tanzania's real-time gross settlement system for high-value payments above TZS 20 million. It operates on weekdays between 8am and 4pm GMT+3 and settles in near real-time.
To send via TISS, the sender will need:
SWIFT Code: As shown in your wallet
Account Number
Account Name
Bank Address
Book Transfer
Book Transfer allows for instant payments between accounts held at the same bank, available 24/7. This applies within CRDB or within Ecobank — not across the two banks.
