Verto Atlas FAQs

Common questions about Verto Atlas, our embedded finance API and platform for fintechs and platforms.

What is Verto Atlas?

Verto Atlas is an embedded finance API and platform for fintechs and platforms that serve customers across Africa, Asia, and other emerging markets. It lets a business build Verto's banking, FX and payments into its own products, and then offer collection accounts, currency conversion and payouts to its own customers. The business does not need to build the systems, hold the licences or hire the experts itself.

Atlas is for platforms and fintechs that serve their own end customers. If you want API access to run your own company's payments and FX, see Verto's Core API instead.

How do I embed FX and payments into my fintech platform with Verto Atlas?

With Verto Atlas, you connect to Verto's API, or use the Verto platform if you don't have developers, and create sub-accounts and wallets for your customers. You then receive webhook alerts when a payment comes in, convert currencies 24/7, and start local or international payouts. Your customers use your product while Verto runs the accounts, FX and payments behind it.

What can I offer my customers with Verto Atlas?

With Verto Atlas, you can offer three things:

  • Local collection accounts. Your customers get their own virtual accounts to receive money locally in NGN, KES, TZS, AED, XOF, XAF, ZAR, DKK, UGX, USD, GBP and EUR.

  • Currency conversion and global payments. They can convert money and send payments to 100+ countries in 48 currencies, including USD, EUR and CNH.

  • Mass payouts into Africa. They can send money straight to bank accounts or mobile money wallets.

Can Verto Atlas pay out to African bank accounts and mobile money wallets?

Yes. Verto Atlas supports mass payouts into Africa, sending money directly to bank accounts or mobile money wallets. A platform can use this to pay out sellers, contractors, freelancers or remittance recipients across Africa.

Can fintechs in Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania or South Africa use Verto Atlas?

Verto Atlas is built for fintechs and platforms operating in or serving emerging markets. Its virtual accounts support local currencies including NGN (Nigeria), KES (Kenya), TZS (Tanzania), and ZAR (South Africa), and its payouts reach bank accounts and mobile money wallets across Africa, and the world for paying suppliers abroad. Availability depends on your business and use case, so speak to Verto's sales team to confirm your market.

Is Verto Atlas suitable for marketplaces and platforms?

Yes. Atlas for Platforms is designed for marketplaces, expense management platforms and brokers that want to embed payments, virtual accounts, cards and other financial services into their platforms. A marketplace can give its sellers or customers virtual accounts, collect money in local currency and pay out across Africa.

B2B marketplaces can also use Verto to store client funds, and facilitate transactions between its users.

Is Verto Atlas banking-as-a-service?

Verto Atlas gives you the building blocks often called banking-as-a-service, including virtual accounts, wallets, FX and payouts, run on Verto's licences and infrastructure so you don't need your own.

Who is Verto Atlas for?

Verto Atlas comes in two versions, designed for different types of businesses:

  • Atlas for Fintechs: Built for financial companies such as PSPs and banks that want to embed collections, FX and payouts into their own products and services. This can support use cases such as cross-border payments, remittances, FX and other financial services.

  • Atlas for Platforms: Designed for marketplaces, Software-as-a-Service companies, expense management platforms and brokers that want to embed payments, virtual accounts, cards and other financial services into their platforms.

What is the difference between Verto Atlas and Verto's Core API?

Verto Atlas is for businesses that offer financial services to their own customers, such as a fintech or marketplace embedding accounts, FX and payouts. Verto's Core API is for businesses that want API access to run their own company's payments and FX.

How can I control Verto Atlas?

There are two ways to run Verto Atlas:

  • API. This gives you full control from start to finish. Use it to create sub-accounts and wallets, get webhook alerts when a payment comes in, convert currencies 24/7, and start local or international payouts.

  • Verto platform. If you don't have developers available, or you prefer a ready-to-go solution, you can do everything Atlas offers directly on the Verto platform.

How reliable is Verto Atlas?

Verto Atlas is built to provide reliable, round-the-clock support and access to your funds. Our dedicated account management team is available to assist you, while our API enables 24/7 currency conversion.

Verto is regulated in the UK, and customer funds are held separately from Verto's own funds in safeguarded accounts. This helps ensure your customers' money remains protected and separate from Verto's operating funds.
