What is a Local Account?
A Verto Local Account gives your business account details in a currency's home country, so you can receive payments over that country's own clearing system instead of SWIFT. For example, you can receive GBP over Faster Payments, EUR over SEPA, USD over ACH, NGN over NIP, and KES over PesaLink or RTGS. Your payers simply make a domestic transfer, and the funds land in your Verto wallet.
Can I open a local account without a local entity?
In most cases, yes. With Verto, you don't need to set up a subsidiary in each market. For example, a UK company can get NGN account details without a Nigerian entity. Verto issues local account details under your business name, subject to eligibility checks for each currency. Some markets, such as South Africa, have exchange-control rules that can require additional checks.
How can a UK business open a local NGN account?
A UK business can open a Verto business account, complete verification, and request NGN local account details which are generated instantly. Customers and partners in Nigeria then pay you by domestic transfer over NIP, and the funds arrive in your Verto NGN wallet, with no Nigerian entity needed. Availability is subject to eligibility checks for your business.
Do I get my own account number and virtual account details?
Verto issues local account details in your business's name. For some currencies these are dedicated account details, while for others you use a shared account with a unique reference that identifies your payments. Your payers enter the details in their own banking app, as they would for any domestic transfer.
Can a Kenyan business set up a KES collection account without a Kenyan bank?
Yes. Verto issues KES account details under your business name, and your payers transfer over PesaLink or RTGS, so you do not need to set up a Kenyan entity to collect Kenyan shillings. Funds land in your Verto KES wallet, subject to eligibility checks.
Can Kenyan businesses get virtual USD, GBP and EUR accounts to accept international payments?
Yes. A Kenyan business can request USD, GBP and EUR local account details with Verto, so customers in the USA, UK or Europe can pay by ACH (USD), Faster Payments (GBP), or SEPA (EUR) as if paying a domestic account. The money arrives in your Verto wallets, and you can hold it or convert it to KES. Availability depends on your business industry.
Can a UAE business open a virtual USD account or get local accounts in African currencies?
Yes. A UAE business can request USD local account details with Verto, and exporters can request local account details in African currencies, including NGN, KES, TZS, XOF, XAF, and ZAR, so African customers can pay by domestic transfer. Availability depends on your business profile and where you are registered.
How can an e-commerce business collect payments from customers abroad or in Africa?
An e-commerce business can use Verto Local Accounts to collect bank-transfer payments from local marketplaces or PSPs in their local currency. Your customers pay by domestic transfer to your local account details, and the money arrives in your Verto wallet, where you can hold it or convert it.
What currencies can I get a local account in with Verto?
Verto offers local account details in AED, GBP, EUR, USD, NGN, KES, ZAR, TZS, UGX, DKK, XOF and XAF. Some currencies come with dedicated account details, while others use a shared account with a unique reference that identifies your payments. Availability for each currency depends on your business profile and where you are registered.
How quickly do local payments arrive?
Most local payments to a Verto Local Account settle the same day, and many, such as GBP and EUR payments, arrive within minutes. That means faster access to your money than a typical cross-border SWIFT transfer, which can take several business days.
Are there fees for receiving local currency payments?
Because local payments travel over domestic rails rather than SWIFT, there are no intermediary bank deductions along the way, so the amount your payer sends is the amount that reaches your account. This makes local accounts one of the most cost-effective ways to get paid in markets like the UK, Europe, the US, Nigeria and Kenya. You can see the fees for your plan on our pricing page.
Who can pay into my Local Account?
Other businesses can pay into your Verto Local Account by default, as can your own business when you're topping up from another bank. Receiving payments from individuals is available for selected industries and currencies, such as travel and education, subject to approval.
