What format should my bulk payments CSV file be in?

The columns and formatting rules for the bulk payments CSV.

Verto's bulk payments file has a specific column structure. Using the provided template avoids most upload errors.

1. Download the official Verto CSV template from the bulk payment upload screen, or click here to download it. Always use a freshly downloaded copy.

2. Fill in the payment columns. These are needed on every row: Amount and Purpose of payment (a short code such as SUPPLIER, PAYROLL or SERVICES). Reference is optional.

3. Say who you're paying. The template combines payment and beneficiary details, so you don't need to add beneficiaries first:

  • Existing beneficiary: enter their reference (starting "RP-") in Beneficiary reference and leave the other beneficiary columns blank.

  • New beneficiary: leave Beneficiary reference blank and fill in the beneficiary columns: currency, payment method (local or international), beneficiary type, relationship, name, account number/IBAN, bank code/SWIFT, and address details where required for the destination country.

4. Follow the formatting rules:

  • Amounts must be numeric, without currency symbols.

  • Reference: letters, numbers and spaces only, up to 35 characters (no hyphens or other symbols).

  • Account numbers should include no spaces.

  • For NGN, enter the bank name in the bank code column. See What bank names should I use for NGN when uploading a beneficiary CSV?

  • For KES and TZS, use the bank code mapping to find the right code for the bank.

  • For US recipients, use the full state name, e.g. New York.

💡 Tip: Save your file as a .CSV (UTF-8 encoded), up to 10 MB. If a long account number gets reformatted by Excel, add an apostrophe (') in front of it.

5. Verto validates the file on upload and tells you which rows have errors and why.

⚠️ Warning: Do not include column headers in the data rows. The first row should always be the header row. The second row of the template is a description row, so delete it if your upload doesn't accept it.
