2. Why has my payment taken longer than expected to arrive at Verto?

Important to Note for Inbound Payments

To ensure the fastest possible settlement, please keep the following in mind:

Bank Holidays and Weekends

  • While SEPA Instant, Faster Payments, and NIP work 24/7, Standard SEPA and SWIFT only move on Banking Business Days. Payments initiated on a Friday evening may not begin processing until Monday morning.

Cut-off Times

  • Each sending bank has a daily cut-off. Payments initiated after this time are treated as being sent the following business day.

  • You can confirm the cut of time with your sender bank.

Verification Checks

  • High value or first time payments may be subject to routine compliance reviews. This is a standard security measure and may occasionally add 24-48 hours to the timeline.

Pending Staus

  • Sometimes a sender’s bank marks a payment as ‘Pending’ before it even enters the network. If the funds haven't left their account, they haven't reached the payment rail yet.

Incorrect Details

  • If the recipient's name or account number doesn't match our records exactly, the bank may hold the funds to manually verify the details or initiate a reversal.

Currency Conversion

  • If a payment requires a currency swap (e.g., sending USD to a GBP account via SWIFT), the conversion process can add 24 hours to the total settlement time.

NIBSS Instant Payments (NIP)

  • It operates 24/7, but please ensure the Bank Verification Number (BVN) of the sender is valid to avoid automated reversals.

Intermediary Banks

  • For international (SWIFT) transfers, your money may pass through 2 or 3 intermediary banks, each bank takes time to process the message.

3. Funds have not arrived into my account. How do I investigate where my payment is?

Payment Investigation Flowchart

Follow these steps if your funds have not arrived within the expected window.

Step 1: Check when the payment was sent

Was the payment sent more than 2 hours ago?

  • NO: Please wait. Even Instant rails can take up to 2 hours due to routine checks and settlement.

  • YES: Proceed to Step 2.

Step 2: Identify the payment rail

How was the money sent?

  • Option A: Local Instant Rail (Faster Payments, SEPA Instant, NIBSS, FedNow, PayShap)

    • Action: Ask the sender bank for a Screenshot of the Success screen or the Tracking ID.

    • Check: Does the receipt say Pending?

      • If YES, the money is still with the sending bank.

      • If NO, and you have a Success ID, proceed to Step 3.

  • Option B: Global SWIFT

    • Action: Ask the sender for the MT103 document.

    • Locate: Find the UETR (a 36-character code).

    • Track: Enter the UETR into a swift tracker.

      • If it shows ‘In Transit’, it is moving through intermediary banks.

      • If it shows ‘Completed’, proceed to Step 3.

Step 3: Verification Check

Are the Recipient Details correct?

  • NO: If the Name or Account Number are incorrect, the payment may be held for manual checks or will be automatically reversed to the sender within 1–3 business days.

  • YES: Proceed to Step 4.

Step 4: Contact our support team

If you have a Successful Tracking ID and all details are correct:

  • Action: Open a chat with us and provide:

    1. The Currency and Amount.

    2. The Tracking ID.

    3. A PDF/Screenshot of the payment confirmation.

  • Check: We can now ask our receiving provider if they have sight of these inbound funds.

4. Will I receive a notification when funds land into my account?

  • Yes, you will receive an email notification when funds land into your account with Verto.
